Chiltern Seeds say: "To European eyes, this must be one of the strangest of the Oriental vegetables in appearance. However, fried (with Red Peppers), boiled or added to casseroles, it is delicious and makes a pleasant and interesting change to the menu. Surprisingly, even with the ever-increasing variety on offer at greengrocers nowadays, this one seems not yet to have made the shelves. With a flavour described as being like Jerusalem Artichokes, Scorzonera and Parsnips, it surely must be worth a trial. We´ve heard it´s an interesting addition to baked beans! A very rapid grower, producing long, slender roots about 30 ins. long with flesh of a fine texture and of a good flavour."
